I just want to thank all of you for making an effort to come to your child’s interview last week.  Many great conversations took place and I feel we are all on the right path.  Please remember to send back the signed report card envelope for the next term report.

The Holiday Luncheon is fast approaching on December 11th.  We couldn’t have this exceptional lunch without the great support of our parents.  If interested in helping, please contact Mrs. Miller.

Our spelling words for the week are as follows:

Halloween Approaching Quickly

Filed under: Uncategorized — nmoreau @ 6:40 pm

We had a great time at Rounds Pumpkin Patch on Friday.  Despite the light snow and rain in the morning, the children enjoyed the warm sunshine and playground by early afternoon.  We all got to bring home a small pumpkin and very muddy boots and clothes.

Thanks to Mrs. Raikes for organizing this fun trip.  We won’t forget the zipline we got to try.

This Thursday, Oct. 31, is our school Halloween Fun Fair.  The children will be enjoying games and Halloween activities organized by the intermediates to fundraise for their year end trip.  The games and snacks require children to purchase tickets in the morning when the older children come around to sell the tickets.  They receive prizes for every game they play and it is a fun time had by all. The children are free to float throughout the school during the afternoon to play the variety of games and activities.  All children usually bring enough money to buy tickets to get them through two hours of fun.  A letter will be sent home early in the week with prices included.

In math, we are working on collecting data and making survey questions  in order to produce picture graphs.

In language, we are focusing on connections, main idea and producing writing with capitals and periods.

Happy December

Filed under: Uncategorized — nmoreau @ 3:29 pm

There are only 12 days left in our class before Christmas.  Our holiday luncheon is Wednesday December 12 and each student is reminded to bring in two boxes of stuffing mix  on or before Friday December 7th.  This is a very special occasion and we all need to team up to make this as fun and successful as it has been in the past.

Christmas Cheer items are also being collected during the next few weeks.  Our school post office will also be open beginning on Monday December 10th.

We hope to have a fun few weeks but continuing to work on adding and subtracting, summarizing and urban and rural communities.

As December arrives, there are many events happening at our school.

We have been preparing our placemats for the Holiday Luncheon on December 12, 2012.  Our class is responsible for bringing in two boxes of stuffing mix each.

Both Grade 3 and Grade 4 will have a math test on adding and subtracting with and without regrouping on Wednesday December 5th.
We have begun working on Urban and Rural Communities in Grade 3.  The Grade 4′s have been learning about Physical Regions and have studied the The Arctic Region.  A project will be assigned soon for after Christmas completion.

I would like to thank those of you that came to see your child’s work kand progress during the conferences.  It is always great to see the good things and see what your child has to work on.

We would like to welcome Ms. Cotnam to our class.  She is a student teacher from Lakehead University who will be joining our cottage for the next four weeks.  She is beginning to teach some math this week and will begin gym and drama next week.  The new math unit is adding and subtracting with regrouping.  Practising basic math facts would be very helpful.

The grade fours are learning the different physical regions in Canada.

The grade threes are beginning to study urban and rural communities.

I wanted to wish all of you a safe and happy Halloween.

Hopefully, the weather will dry up for the trick or treaters.

We have started a new unit in patterning in math.  In

social studies, we will be practising the provinces and territories of Canada.

We will then be moving onto Urban and Rural studies in Grade 3 and

Canada’s physical regions in grade 4.

I can’t believe it is almost November!!  How time flies when you are having fun.

Math – We are beginning a new unit in data management tomorrow where we will have graphing many different types of data.

Gym – Hopefully, we will be able to continue outside with a few more days of football.  However, many children do not have outdoor running shoes for daily use and this makes running quite uncomfortable for them.

If there are any questions, please drop in to visit but make sure you stop by the office to sign in.  This is a safety measure that we are all trying to encourage.
